Today, we are chatting with urban shaman and author Mama Donna Henes on the topic of giving readings with confidence and trust. To label Mama Donna as simply a shaman or author is an understatement... she is a true spiritual teacher with decades of experience.
I am so excited to bring this interview to you and I know that you are going to feel the amazing energy and quiet power of Mama Donna's words. This is some really good stuff and I am fully confident that you will enjoy this post!
Let's start by talking a little bit about your background. How long have you been doing this work, and how did you know it's what you wanted to do?
I am an Urban Shaman and have worked professionally as such for 39 years now. Though I have been on this path since I was a young child, it took a major vision at the age of 30 that affirmed and verified that this is, indeed, my life’s purpose. This was my Assignment From the Universe.
When you first started doing this work, what was your biggest fear in sharing intuitive messages and/or messages from Spirit? What helped you the most in overcoming that fear?
I have always received very clear and graphic messages in my dreams that “came true” in waking life. I found this to be very frightening. Was I previewing/predicting these occurrences? Or was I casing them? I came to realize that these messages helped me to deal more wisely with situations that I encountered, and I came to trust them as guidance.
Approximately how long did it take for you to feel confident in trusting the intuitive messages you were receiving for others?
It was a gradual process over a decade or so.
Was there a particular moment in your journey that stands out as one that validated your gifts?
There have been, and continue to be, so many of these cosmic affirmations. I think it is a life-long adventure into the unknown as IT — I call this energy All That Is — reveals IT’s endless lessons and blessings to us. We interpret these knowings as we understand them. The message, the lessons, the blessings vary, but they each reaffirm our participation in the unfolding miracle of All That Is.
Many new readers get nervous when a client cannot immediately validate the information that they give. What advice would you give new readers with regards to was this situation?
My readings are not so much about information. I am not interested in prediction. Rather, I deal in understanding. I offer guidance and encouragement for each client to understand what these spirit messages mean for her or him and how they can help to create a centered, balanced, productive and joyful life. In this way, my readings are prescriptive.
Is there anything that you do to prepare for a reading that has helped with "pre-reading" jitters?
I don’t have pre-reading jitters, but sometimes new clients do. So I always start a reading by offering a blessing of the third eye to ignite their powers of intuition and deepest inner knowing. My dog partner loves these blessings and always makes sure that she, too is blessed.
Is there any other piece of advice you'd like to give, or another question you wish I had asked regarding giving readings with confidence and trust?
Trust your gut. Trust the cards. Trust the stars. Trust the universe. Trust that whatever happens is what needs to happen.
